Song to the Siren (Tim Buckley arr Chris Pink/Sue Taylor/ Ann Ballinger/Esther Jay)
The Arran Boat set (Arran Boat Song, Toss the Feathers, The Morning Dew trad arr Ann Ballinger/Chris Pink)

Phantasmagoria in Two and the Arran Boat set were recorded in the White House Studios in Weston-super-Mare last November, Phantasmagoria recently remixed to showcase new singer Esther Jay's work with the band.

The Arran Boat set starts with a traditional Shetland slow jig and develops into instrumental Pink Froot in full flight, furiously fast playing in Toss the Feathers by Ann Ballinger showing why Venue Magazine called her the 'Hendrix of the flute'.

Song to the Siren is an early recording on one of our rehearsals with Esther. It has such a lovely lyrical feel that we thought we'd share it with you even though the sound quality is not great.

Pink Froot proudly present new singer Esther Jay

Pink Froot would like to welcome Esther Jay as our new singer. Early days yet but we are so very excited by this new input into the Frooty process. When she kicks in with with some of the dark emotions swirling around in our songs her voice transports me, literally shivers down my spine.

We are in the process of arranging our songs again for Esther's voice and rehearsing and writing new material. To give you a taste, we have made a quick'n'dirty recording of Song to the Siren. although written by Tim Buckley we have taken as our starting point the wonderfuly poignant working by Shusheela Raman and This Mortal Coil.

Expect more news soon of our lovely new singer, we are hoping to get out and play live soon, maybe a few warm-up open mics around Bristol and Bath and then some proper gigs in the autumn. Breaking Froot news on myspace www.myspace.com/pinkfroot - When they let us back in!!

Pink Froot form Tim Buckley tribute band

Well no, not really but it's beginning to seem that way as the first two songs we have in any listenable form with Esther are written by Tim. They come from extremely different musical places, Song to the Siren, as said, is inspired by the Susheela Raman arrangement. Phantasmagoria comes from a live album, Goodbye and Hello by Tim Buckley though both have gone through the Pink Froot process and emerged as very different pieces of music.

And they will be the last Tim Buckley covers we do. Ever. Now where are those Jeff Buckley albums?

Pink Froot played Live:

Bristol: The Croft, Stokes Croft 22nd October 2008
We learnt that this was the last gig Flook did before they split, which is a bit sad as they were such nice people and fine musicians. It is possible to see that if you do that kind of traditional music for so long then other projects and paths need to explored. All things must change.

Anyway, hope it wasn't our fault.

Pink Froot
